Units and Items
Whether you bill by volume, different media sizes, services, hours, days, or kilometers: Create your own units and simply select them for each invoice. The units “Download” and “Volume” are created by default in Backstage.

Media can be priced flexibly: A price code is used to assign the appropriate price list based on RM (Rights-Managed) or RF (Royalty-Free) metadata.
With the price list module, Backstage lets you set up your own custom price calculator. Create as many price lists as you need.
Categorize your sales customers and partners, and define different discount groups and rates for loyal buyers. These can be assigned individually in the master data and are applied as discounts during billing.
With Backstage, invoices can be generated automatically based on downloads by customers and sales partners, provided that the download costs for the respective media groups have been defined.
In Backstage, statutory tax rates can be managed centrally: Up to 20 tax rates can be defined and assigned to items. This ensures that the correct tax rate is automatically applied when entering transactions.
You can make the system work optimally for you. The VAT calculation determines whether VAT should be applied in a specific case and provides the appropriate designations for this purpose.
Using additional calculations, you can define flexible surcharges and discounts for customers and vendors—either as a percentage or a fixed amount—and specifically control how these affect the final settlement amount, e.g., for withholding tax or KSV.
By creating custom revenue categories, you can enhance transparency in your revenue statement. Revenue items can be assigned automatically or manually, enabling meaningful analyses that go beyond standard master data. For example, by distribution channel or collecting society.
Payment methods define the type of payment transaction, such as “invoice” or “credit card.” Create custom payment methods for your sales and purchasing master data.
Payment methods such as cash or credit card are part of the open item posting process in Backstage and are available for both deposits and withdrawals. You can create the payment methods you need yourself, tailored to the Backstage languages German and English.
Document types are used to classify billing documents and, in addition to providing statistical reports, also allow you to generate corresponding print forms in batches. The document types “Downloads” and “Fee Statements” are already available by default.
In accounting, general ledger accounts are those that are directly included in the balance sheet or the income statement. Backstage allows you to create revenue and expense accounts and assign them to items, media items, and item groups.
Synchronize Backstage with your external accounting system using the accounting interface built into the system. Simply define the numbering scheme for accounts receivable and accounts payable that should be transferred to your accounting system.
Accounts receivable consist of the company’s debtors - that is, customers who have received goods or services on account, as well as contractual partners for whom you have provided and invoiced services.
Vendors are creditors with accounts receivable arising from sales and services. They are contractual partners who have provided a service to your company and from whom you receive an invoice.
A cost center is the location within a company where costs are incurred. Its purpose is to track all overhead costs for the respective department. Simply create one in Backstage for effective cost center calculations.
Streamline your processes with master data templates: Frequently used financial data can be stored centrally, automatically populated, and customized as needed. For customers, creators, and partners.
Backstage simplifies the creation of a wide range of financial documents. Thanks to the “enter once, use everywhere” feature, information only needs to be entered once and is then available for subsequent documents.
At the end of the month, you can generate automated fee invoices for media suppliers with the click of a button, based on payment receipts, copyright metadata, and the stored contract data.
You can import a partner’s sales reports into an invoice in Backstage, so the sales can be included in the sales reports you generate for your contributors.
